Minoru Centre for Active Living pool reconstruction on schedule and on budget says City of Richmond

Richmond, BC – Reconstruction of the lap pool at the Minoru Centre for Active Living remains on schedule and on budget, and is expected to open to the public this fall as previously announced.

BC-based Omicron Construction is undertaking the repair work and is currently completing the building of the pool’s concrete base slab. Once the slab has cured and dried to the required moisture level, a waterproof membrane will be installed and tiling of the lap pool will commence in the coming weeks.

Repairs to the pool are covered under construction insurance that was activated following an extensive investigation that identified poor workmanship as the cause of the pool failure. The firm responsible for managing the construction, Stuart Olson, is in the process of leaving the site.

The City reinforced that the delays are not a result of its actions and that recent legal action initiated by Stuart Olson will not impact the repair schedule or plans to fully open the Minoru Centre for Active Living to the public this fall.

The Minoru Centre for Active Living includes the aquatic and fitness centre, a two-storey seniors centre, sport programming and support space, a full service cafeteria and bistro, commercial kitchen, and three outdoor public plazas.
